My name is Alex Nagase. I am a freshman majoring in Physics.
I reside in room 2125 of Anacapa Hall along with 2 other roommates. I'm a
photographer at the Daily Nexus and also enjoy taking pictures in my free time.
I was born in Englewood, New Jersey, across the Hudson River
from New York City. Three years later, my sister was born. After kindergarten I
moved to Jersey Shore and lived there for 8 years. Then I moved to Sunnyvale in
Northern California.
California is a much nicer to place than New Jersey. For
example, the weather in the Bay Area is impeccable. More than 300 days out of
the year its sunny in Sunnyvale, and the temperature never gets uncomfortably
hot or cold. In New Jersey, winters would be unbearably cold with blizzards and
ice stranding people inside their homes. Summers would be regularly over ninety
degrees with high humidity, while hurricanes and tropical storms devastated the
areas.
Other than the weather, I also appreciate the diversity and industrial
dynamic that the Silicon Valley offers. As an enthusiast of experiencing other
cultures, the representation of many ethnicities so close to my house allow me
to expand horizons without traveling very far.
Silicon Valley is also known for its industry with
technology and innovation-driven mindset. I love science and living there
enabled me to interact with likeminded people. I also like taking things apart
in my free time and fixing broken devices. By fixing the stuff that I broke and
learning the inner workings, I am able to apply the same principle to fix
things I've never touched before. This skill has come in handy after coming to
college, as people on my floor pay me money and food to fix their bikes,
computers, electronics, and furniture. Unfortunately, sometimes they think I
can fix their personal problems too. I'm pretty bad at dealing with
"people problems" so I just tell them to go away.
